Packaging Experiments

Before the vacuum preservation system existed we tested several packaging ideas including simple bags and boxes. These experiments revealed how fragile baked cones could be during storage and transport.

The first UniOven we built was almost humble. It baked just two pizza cones at a time. At the time, that felt like a breakthrough, but markets quickly taught us something important: speed matters when customers are hungry. Vendors needed more output without sacrificing consistency. That challenge pushed us back to the drawing board again and again. Heat flow, spacing, airflow and handling all had to be rethought. Over time the machine evolved into the configuration we use today: six large cones and six mini cones in one efficient cycle. What began as a small experiment became a commercial system. It is a reminder that innovation rarely arrives fully formed; it grows through observation, testing and listening carefully to real users.

First, food-grade desiccant bags insert to scavenge residual moisture. Second, vacuum evacuation removes oxygen to prevent staling and immobilize cones against breakage. Third, thick vacuum bags undergo industrial heat sealing for maximum barrier protection. This upgrade guarantees moist removal, extends freshness windows, and reduces physical waste and damage during shipping. Designing the UniView as Functional Art

When we started developing the UniView heated display, we realised it could not simply be a warmer. In a busy market or food stall, people first eat with their eyes. If the display did not attract attention from across the walkway, the cones would never sell themselves. That insight changed the design completely. We wanted the unit to look almost like a piece of culinary art. The bright red LED band around the top draws the eye instantly, while the clean white interior lighting makes every golden cone glow. The science of temperature control works quietly in the background, but the visual design does the selling. The UniView became proof that food equipment can serve two masters at once: engineering performance and visual theatre.

The Lesson of the “Kiddie Cone”

Our first attempt at mini pizza cones came with what seemed like a clever idea: we launched them as “Kiddie Cones.” The logic sounded reasonable. Smaller size, smaller customers. But reality told a different story. Children did not want kiddie food; they wanted exactly what the adults were eating. Even worse, adults avoided them because the name suggested something childish. Sales stalled and we learned an important marketing lesson. Food is emotional and people choose with their identity as much as their appetite. The moment we dropped the label and simply called them Mini Pizza Cones, everything changed. Suddenly they were not childish; they were convenient, snackable and fun for everyone. Sometimes the science of business is simply understanding human psychology.


The Curious Case of the Missing Handle

When the PizzaFry tray was first developed for airfryers, we knew users needed a safe way to remove it. The obvious solution was a detachable metal handle. It worked beautifully—until customers started losing them. Handles disappeared into drawers, got misplaced, or simply never made it back to the tray. That small inconvenience became a surprisingly big problem. Instead of fighting human nature, we redesigned the tray. Three small slots were cut into the structure so ordinary kitchen forks could slide in and lift the tray safely. Suddenly the problem vanished. No special tool required. It was a small design adjustment, but a powerful reminder: the best engineering solutions often work with everyday habits rather than trying to change them.


Teaching Entrepreneurship with a Mini Pizza Cone

The Micro-Business Startup Kit was born from a simple observation. Many people learn how to work for someone, but very few learn how to think like an employer. We wanted to change that. By combining simple equipment, cones and recipes into one kit, we created a small laboratory for entrepreneurship.
